Considering the cold evenings and nights in Poland we decided to take advantage of the sun and warmth still available in the Southern Europe. The closest (and the easiest) was to drive to Italy.
A little bit more than 1000km and we reached the Adriatic Sea in Grado.
It felt really good to have italian pizza for a dinner. We really missed the Mediterranean food…
30掳C in the evening made it pretty difficult to fall asleep but the next days should be a little bit colder (26掳C) and we will be looking for some shade for the van.
On our way to a family celebration in central Poland (85th birthday of my grandpa!) we had a stop in the Blue Springs nature reserve and the nearby聽Museum of Pilica river.
The castle in 艁臋czyca is small but worth seeing (free entry on Thursdays). The exhibition inside is mostly dedicated to the devil Boruta, famous character of local fairy tales.
No photos from the top of the tower bacouse, as it often happens, as soon as we reached the top, Jasiu announced he needed a toilet…
The next stop was the Collegiate Church of St. Mary and St. Alexius in Tum. For me that is one of the most beautiful churches in Poland. And with looong and interesting history as well. Do not miss it on your way. If closed, pass by the neighbouring museum to request a free visit (donation based visiting).
We started the day in Kruszwica to see a tower well known from a fairy tell about price Popiel and maises.
About 170 steps up and the view on the neighborhood is beautiful.
We could not enjoy these views for too long because as soon as we reached the top, Jasiu announces that he needed a toilet. Urgently!
The second castle remainings are less famous but worth seeing as well when you are nearby Ko艂o.
This could have been a nice place to stay for the night, but it was still relatively early so we decided to see another ruins 25km away, in Besiekiery.
Later we continued to Uniej贸w to stay overnight in a parking next to the river and Uniej贸w therme.
Museum of the first Piast at Lednica is well worth seeing. We spend beautiful half a day there. We would have liked a bit more information on the history of some of the places and objects in the nuseum and I installed their virtual reality mobile app that was supposed to help us. Unfortunately the app was not able to detect the GPS receiver in my phone and later it was crashing while starting… Well, when “computer says NO” the discussion is over 馃槈
In the afternoon we visited the nearby Museum in Dziekanowice. Unfortunately we only had 1.5h to the museum closing and so we were not able to see it all. One would need at least half a day to complete the tour. That is well recommended, especially if you speak Polish and can ask the guides in every building for some introduction to what you see.
That night we spent on a free parking between the two museums, right next to the beach. The views on the sunset above Lednica lake were truly beautiful.
Centre of Slavs and Vikings in Wolin is a recreated Slavic Viking settlement, with medieval craft demonstrations in Wolin can be a very interesting 1h-2h stop and if you speak polish it can keep you busy even for longer. We could talk to an archer, a locksmith and taste (and buy) artisan food. It must me even more worth coming there during medieval markets and local events!
On the very hot day we were looking for a refreshment at the Baltic see in Mi臋dzywodzie.
But for the night we sought for a more quiet place, nearby Wrzosowo at Kamie艅ski Lagoon.
After spending a night at a channel nearby the crooked forest in Gryfino, we went there for a short walk. Indeed it is very interesting to see so many trees bent in a similar manner. Unfortunately it is unclear how and why these distortions were made. They are manmade for sure and the rest is unknown.
After this short visit we moved forward North, to the D膮bie lake, looking for a nice peaceful beach with clear water to swim and cool down a bit (34掳C on that day).
In Bystra and Lubczyna the beach was clean and pretty empty, but the water reminded of a green soup.
And so we moved more to the North, to Szczecin Lagoon, to find a very peaceful beach few kilometres after St臋pnica, in Czarnocin.
The water was equally green in there, but the views and the emptiness made us stay there for the night 馃檪
A lovely place to celebrate the 14th anniversary of us together, with a bottle of wine bought in the winyeard visited few days before from … plastic glasses made for kids by a well known Swidish company 馃檪
艁ag贸w surprised us and very positively with a beautiful park right next the castle and at the shore of a lake. This place is full of history and a romantic charm…
From there we moved forward towards Lubniewice. We stayed overnight at a forest parking with a view on the lake.
And in the morning took a stroll around the park of love. A lovely morning…
There is a park of dwarfs in Nowa S贸l that will make your kids happy. The entrance is free and you will find enough playgrounds and animal to keep your kids busy for 2-3hours.
The fun time for the kids was the planning time for me. With temperature of 30掳C+ we decided to look for some nice lakes and hang around them. And do we drove towards lake Szumino. On our way there we spotted the highest statue of Jesus in Europe. Although to me it looks like a statue of Aragorn from “the Lord of the rings” 馃槈
Lake Szumino appeared to be reasonably clean and the spot we found was good enough for an overnight staying but…
half an hour after we arrived, a tractor sprayed manure on a nearby field… The smell was so intense that we decided to look for another place, with some fresh air, for a change 馃槈 And so we found lake Nies艂ysz, with ctistal clear water and white sand on the beach 馃檪
