Slavs, Vikings and the Baltic sea

Centre of Slavs and Vikings in Wolin is a recreated Slavic Viking settlement, with medieval craft demonstrations in Wolin can be a very interesting 1h-2h stop and if you speak polish it can keep you busy even for longer. We could talk to an archer, a locksmith and taste (and buy) artisan food. It must me even more worth coming there during medieval markets and local events!

On the very hot day we were looking for a refreshment at the Baltic see in Międzywodzie.

But for the night we sought for a more quiet place, nearby Wrzosowo at Kamieński Lagoon.

Crooked forest in Gryfino, Dąbie lake and Szczecin lagoon

After spending a night at a channel nearby the crooked forest in Gryfino, we went there for a short walk. Indeed it is very interesting to see so many trees bent in a similar manner. Unfortunately it is unclear how and why these distortions were made. They are manmade for sure and the rest is unknown.

After this short visit we moved forward North, to the Dąbie lake, looking for a nice peaceful beach with clear water to swim and cool down a bit (34°C on that day).

In Bystra and Lubczyna the beach was clean and pretty empty, but the water reminded of a green soup.

Digging in the guarded beach in Lubczyna was very exciting!

And so we moved more to the North, to Szczecin Lagoon, to find a very peaceful beach few kilometres after Stępnica, in Czarnocin.

The water was equally green in there, but the views and the emptiness made us stay there for the night 🙂

A lovely place to celebrate the 14th anniversary of us together, with a bottle of wine bought in the winyeard visited few days before from … plastic glasses made for kids by a well known Swidish company 🙂

Anyway, it was served in a perfect temperature 😀

Łagów and Lubniewice

Łagów surprised us and very positively with a beautiful park right next the castle and at the shore of a lake. This place is full of history and a romantic charm…

From there we moved forward towards Lubniewice. We stayed overnight at a forest parking with a view on the lake.

And in the morning took a stroll around the park of love. A lovely morning…

Kids fun in Nowa Sól, lakes Szumino and Niesłysz

There is a park of dwarfs in Nowa Sól that will make your kids happy. The entrance is free and you will find enough playgrounds and animal to keep your kids busy for 2-3hours.

The fun time for the kids was the planning time for me. With temperature of 30°C+ we decided to look for some nice lakes and hang around them. And do we drove towards lake Szumino. On our way there we spotted the highest statue of Jesus in Europe. Although to me it looks like a statue of Aragorn from “the Lord of the rings” 😉

Lake Szumino appeared to be reasonably clean and the spot we found was good enough for an overnight staying but…

half an hour after we arrived, a tractor sprayed manure on a nearby field… The smell was so intense that we decided to look for another place, with some fresh air, for a change 😉 And so we found lake Niesłysz, with ctistal clear water and white sand on the beach 🙂

This sign made me loughing a lot:

Toilet – 50m, running – 25m

Lakes Niesulice and Niesłysz

While looking for another lake with clean water and a sandy beach we found a convenient and quiet place at lake Niesulice.

But a tractor arrived to a field neighbouring with the lake … to spray it with the manure….

And so we decided to move….

And we found a lake with a cristal clear water, lake Niesłysz. It is a real pity that it got colder and cloudy the next day because we were tempted to stay there for longer.

Trail of wine and honey

In the surrounding of Zielona Góra one can find several wineyards. Some of them are very small, other bigger. Some owners would have time for the visitors, other wouldn’t… We were lucky to choose Ingrid wineyard to visit on Sunday afternoon. The owner, a smart and very charming lady, shared the story of her last 10 years+ and guided us around. Beautiful place, delicious wine and a very interesting owner!

A good introduction about the winery in the region is given in the centre of winery in Zabór (Lubuskie centrum winiarstwa). A self guided visit with an audioguide is free of charge and will take you about 30min.

Łuk Mużakowa

Cycling on a heavy rental bike (OKSiR in Łęknica, they provide child seats and helmets for free and have towed troilers for kids as well), with a child seat and 16+kg of a child was not an easy task, especially in 26C… But fortunately the good company and beautiful nature (anthropogenic) compensated the heavy duty 😉 and the day was beautiful!

Thank you Mirek and Asia for brining us there!

From one lake beach to another in Wielkopolska

We wanted to stay for a day at the shore of Jeziorsko lake that is known for lots of opportunities for wild camping. But seeing the tons of trashes left behind by the previous tourist, we knew we would not enjoy it there… Amazing how irresponsible people can be…

We moved severel kilometres North, to a small lake called Przykona. The nature was beautiful, but it is allowed to use motorboats on that lake so knew staying for longer is not an option.

On the next day Rafal took some time to have a look at our solar installation that seemed not to work as expected… Indeed two of the panels are not charging the second battery but fortunately the fix should be relatively easy, once we are back to our “base”.

He was lucky enough to secure all the connections on the roof right before a huge thunderstorm…

And do it was time to move forward… The public beach in Śrem is excellent for families with kids. Free water slide for kids above 100cm (but smaller could to try it as well as noone is guarding it), clean sand and warm water (poor water transparency though – I lost my ring in the water and there was no way to find it back 🙁 In that beach we also left behind the best sand toys of our kids, but we only discovered it on the next day :-/)

After getting enough (too much?!) sun we decided to move forward and visited a beach in Nowy Debiec, which occured to be a big holiday resort with a nice beach and dozens of small bars, ice-cream places and toy stands. Our kids loved it but we didn’t so we decided to look for another place… After having checked several forest parkings we ended up in a public beach in Dominice at the shore of Dominickie lake. We actually liked it so much that we stayed there for two nights. Nights of the falling stars 🙂

Gołuchów

In Gołuchów we spent a lovely afternoon with quite some walking, especially for the short legs… The park surrounding the castle is well worth a walk and one can also visit the neighbouring Bizon reserve.

Finding a place for wild camping nearby proved to be difficult that evening do we ended up sleeping at the parking of a local camground (Goluchow – parking przy jeziorze), right next to the road. It was loud and in the morning we found a trash container lying on the ground next to our back window… It looks like someone was curious what is inside… So if you have time, look for a another place to sleep.

Joyful time at Bakałarzewo

It was just by a chance that we arrived to Bakałarzewo. We were looking for a quiet place to park for the night nearby Wigierski Park Narodowy and the small parking by the lake was indicated on one of the maps of possibilities for wild camping.

And the town/village was a very positive surprise to us: with a river and a lake and full of history! We enjoyed our time there a lot! Just layzing by the lake (with a sandy beach), visiting the local playground and paying a visit at small bunker.

The guide for bunker impressed us with his passion for history. You should not miss this 30 minutes excursion just at the border of the village.

And in the afternoon of the next day a lovely couple joined us for the evening and a little bit of the morning! Thank you Asia and Mirek for the joyful and valuable time we that we spent together!
